Millions of Christians gather regularly in churches of all sizes throughout the United States to worship, pray, and build community. With over 300,000 churches scattered throughout the nation, religion has a vital role in the lives of many Americans. While every state has a number of places of worship, some stand out for their particularly high concentration of churches. Here are five states with the most churches.

Texas Almanac, a reference book on the state, says there are over 35,000 churches in the state. Out of these churches, 200 of them are megachurches. Fewer Texans have a congregation affiliation than ten years ago, but the state remains one of the most religious in the country. However, the second largest state in the US has more than churches to offer its residents.

Faith Street has 21,521 churches in California listed on its platform. However, California is in the bottom half of the most religious states in the USA. Christianity remains its main religion, and about half the Christian population consists of Protestants. California is a great place for vacation, with many travelers trooping in all year.

Florida isn’t just loaded with lakes and state parks; it also has a lot of churches. History Hero put the number of churches in Florida at over 15,000. Christians make up 70% of Florida. Among the things to enjoy in Florida are mild winters and beautiful beaches. A thousand people move into the state daily.

If you love mountains, North Carolina is a place to be, and if you love to have a church around you, then you’ll have the best of both worlds. A dataset published on Rentech Digital has 12497 North Carolina churches. Southern Baptist Convention is the single largest denomination, followed by the United Methodist Church and the Roman Catholic Church. North Carolina also has its fair share of big cities for those who love that life.

The southeastern State of Georgia is the 8th most populous state in the US. Rentech Digital’s dataset on Georgia churches shows 12,206 churches. The state is 70% Protestant and 9% Catholic. Together, Johovah’s Witnesses and Mormons make up 3% of the population. Less than a quarter of the state’s population is irreligious, and 4% is made up of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.
